Company Group Plans

· Groups are sought after by all plan companies who offer 5-25% discounts or other perks
· Can start with 3 or more members but past & future claims will determine premiums charged
· Special perks or attention are often given group accounts by Plan Companies & Brokers

All International Medical Insurance and HealthCare Plan firms offer group plans to companies with discounts of 5-25% below standard premium rates. Large groups of over 500 employees can even be priced or rated on a "profit-sharing" basis that allows a customer employer to share in the profits of their group plan with Plan Company. A formula is used to determine shared portions. Only a few plan companies offer this feature. To insure competitive success of these profit-sharing accounts a low brokerage commission applies. Minimum group sizes can be as low as three (3) employees. Some plans require a minimum of five (5) employees whilst others consider 5 adults or 5 people as a minimum basis for allowing group status and rating. Usually discounts start at 5% and move up in 5% increments as group size increases. Group should be accurately estimated in advance to seeking premium quotations.

There are some stipulations for Groups to be aware of. Premium payment can be annually, semi-annually, quarterly and in some larger cases - monthly. Group premiums must be paid by a single source upon receiving a consolidated group billing. Rates charged group members usually are based on review of past and then future consolidated claims made by members. Rates can go up or down depending on total claims paid. With newly starting group accounts, poor medical health of applying members can reflect in higher than average initial premium costs for all members. Review of results is yearly.

Questions asked on group application forms are usually less detailed. If the group is large enough or the policy is a takeover from a competitor of the insurance company, pre-existing conditions may be waived on a newly issued group policy. A single policy is issued yet individual ID Cards are provided. Additions and deletions to the policy are usually made on a pro-rata basis throughout policy year without penalty. Most plans offer ability of individuals to convert to private plans if leaving the group but usually at a higher premium. Group plans are catered to with priority by Plan Companies and Brokers/Agents and thus are periodically provided "extras" in service. An extra could be a Power Point show for effective ongoing employer use for introducing plan particulars to new enrollees or reviewing such plan information with existing group members. Special situation negotiation with a plan company is a common extra, too.
