Some International Medical Insurance and HealthCare plan companies will allow people who have some identifiable association with each other to establish a group plan and be granted a group premium discount. Typical groups can be related families, shareholders or directors of same organization, independent contractors working for same firm, professionals in same occupational field, business owners in same city or town, businesses owners in same type of products / services, others as may be considered.

It is normally impossible to get such associated people to all agree to pay their premiums on a single date and to do so through a single responsible payee for all members of the group. Therefore Plan Companies will allow individual plan commencement dates and also allow each group association member's direct payment of premium to the Plan Company or it's administrator. However, they require a minimum number of participants to enroll, usually 5 or more principals, before a group discount is awarded. As the number of participants increase further discounts may be awarded. However, new discounts normally apply to only new members or the renewal premium rates of existing members.

Some common issues exist with a new association group. A leader of the group sometimes is required, identified and asked to be responsible for coordinating critical matters related to the entire group. He or she is communicated with when need arises. The association is given a group name. It will appear on individual plan documents and it refers planholders to their membership within such named association. Each enrollee submits a full individual plan application. Some participant's premium or coverage may have special terms or conditions depending on their medical history. Collectively claims filed by the group are reviewed yearly and premiums may be adjusted upward on all members due to above average losses settled on the group as a whole.
